2012 Pinot Noir
is elegant, yet powerful, with beautiful floral and berry flavors reminiscent of cranberry, raspberry, and cherry. This is followed with deep, underlying layers of minerality. The purity and balance of this wine portrays hints of spice and cedar that coats the tongue with great acidity in the mid-palate. Integrated oak and deep, rich earth highlights the beautiful fresh fruits of the cool growing region that finishes with smooth, rounded tannins.

“An attractive, mid-weight weight. Sweet red cherry, plum, smoke, herbs and tobacco. Floral and savory notes take center stage as this pliant, expressive Pinot shows off its personality. Classy and polished to the core, the 2012 should drink well for at least a handful of years.” Antonio Galloni

After two challenging, cool years, the vintage of 2012 was an ideal growing season giving us a bountiful crop and excellent wines. The very pleasant weather gave us warm, sunny days and cool nights allowing the fruit enough hang time to develop complex flavors and textures. August proved to be a bit warmer than normal, helping to ripen the grapes and provide some well-balanced flavors and chemistry. The low juice yields allowed for better depth and concentration.
Hilliard Bruce Vineyard is located on the cool slopes near the western boundary of the Santa Rita Hills appellation. It is comprised of 15.7 acres of Pinot Noir and 5.3 acres of Chardonnay. The climate is defined by a cool and windy maritime influence, allowing the vines an extended growing season. The soil is comprised of sandy silt, which allows for fast drainage and ultimately, more complex flavors. The vineyard prides itself in being Sustainable in Practice (SIP), while maintaining the vineyard’s health and productivity.
This rich, new world Pinot Noir has aromatics of cherry cola, berries and spices. Its earthiness makes it work well with chicken roasted in its own juices or truffles, dark mushroom soup or mushroom risotto.
