After two challenging, cool years, the vintage of 2012 was an ideal growing season giving us a bountiful crop and excellent wines. The very pleasant weather gave us warm, sunny days and cool nights allowing the fruit enough hang time to develop complex flavors and textures. August proved to be a bit warmer than normal, helping to ripen the grapes and provide some well-balanced flavors and chemistry. The low juice yields allowed for better depth and concentration. It was an abundant harvest with yields being one of the highest on record for Camp 4 Vineyard.
Camp 4 Vineyard is situated on the eastern most edge of the Santa Ynez Valley and serves as the gateway into Happy Canyon. The vineyard is home to 19 varietals focusing on Rhone and Bordeaux, providing an ideal microclimate with a long growing season and maximum favor development. The sandy-loam soil aids in producing high quality wine grapes. We pride our vineyard on the perfect balance of quality and quantity and the focus on sustainable farming.
The essence of clove and black pepper along with the dark fruit aromas of this wine makes it a great match for a smoky barbecue of red meat or bratwurst and grilled Portobello mushrooms. This wine also pairs well with stews such as beef with red currant jelly or spicy sausage with kale.
